What Moves Us
ABOUT THE WAVE ROOM
Created & Curated by Macky O
I'm an Argentinian-born creative and business owner based in Miami. A lifelong visual, multimedia, graphic and performance artist, known by her clients as a creative jane-of-all-trades with a strong pull for design, poetry, compelling narratives, world dance, and all kinds of visual and performance arts.
After a 20 year career in graphic design, I've finally figured out how best to use my talents as a connector and natural host. If you've known me, you know I always find a way to hold a microphone to uplift others or makeshift a stage for us to have fun. I’ve always been the one organizing gatherings, raising voices, participating in building community, or helping others share their stories.
I've been a dancer for as long as I can remember, and have taken numerous courses, learned and made close friends with multiple instructors in world dance. These friendships have given me ample experience and invaluable insight about my fellow instructors and their struggles. I value their work, know the challenges they face, understand their needs, and want to uplift them and give them what they need to succeed.
At work I've been labeled a copywriter, art director, translator, social media manager and facilitator working with clients locally and remotely all over the US. I’m bringing that experience and my world-class customer service to this project with clarity and heart.
I believe deeply in the power of this space. My goal is to bring The Wave Room to life with integrity, sustainability, and a copious amount of love.

Why The Wave Room Matters
Miami houses countless creatives from multiple cultural backgrounds, but not enough accessible, welcoming places to move, make, and experiment, especially in areas beyond the Design District, Downtown, Wynwood or Miami Beach.

Many artists are priced out of studios; many dancers and teachers struggle to find space that feels safe, convenient, and inspiring.
When I went to Art School in Downtown Miami, I always felt like an outsider. The main reasons I found were being a non-conventional artist, and living so far from the action. Every opportunity to participate in events felt like a burden with driving and parking, and no flexibility. I didn't participate in the fine-arts scene in the same way as most and felt hugely "uncool." I knew plenty of artists and dancers that lived in Kendall, Doral, Pinecrest, Westchester, Cutler, you name it. They were equally talented and hard-working, although their effort seemed doubled by distance, and cultural and social standing.
The Wave Room exists to give a home to instructors and artists who keep deeply rooted cultural practices alive through teaching, sharing, and embodied practice.
Every rental, every class, and every contribution helps build a space where movement and art fuel each other, keeping creativity alive, supported, and within reach for the communities that need it the most. A space for you to explore and cultivate the deepest parts of your practice, career, and soul path.
Additionally, many cultural spaces in Miami become difficult to access without a student discount. Classical concerts, jazz nights, art-house cinemas, and similar venues often sit in high-cost districts and rely on premium pricing. What felt inviting and affordable during school suddenly jumps steeply in cost, placing experiences meant to inspire out of reach for the people who value them most.
For being an 'us' for once, instead of a 'them.'
La Vie Bohème!
- Jonathan Larson
As someone who grew up dancing, writing, creating, and searching for spaces where I felt safe, accepted, and inspired, I know how powerful it is to simply have a room where you’re allowed to be yourself. The Wave Room is my way of giving that to others, my contribution to the community that raised me. I’m building it for every dancer, artist, or wellness teacher who’s had to beg for time in someone else’s space, who couldn’t afford rent, or who didn’t feel like they belonged.

Our Creative Philosophy
The Wave Room exists on the belief that creativity is a living practice. It's strengthened through presence, community, and repetition. Art, movement, and self-knowledge aren’t separate lanes; they feed each other. When people have room to explore without pressure, they access deeper clarity, confidence, and connection.
This philosophy guides how the space is built and how programs evolve. The focus is on giving artists and movers a place to show up as they are, learn from pros and peers, and stay consistent. Growth comes from process, shared observation, and the willingness to return to the work again and again.
Community is central. Creativity expands when people witness each other, exchange ideas, and offer honest, respectful critique. The Wave Room supports that through open studio time, critique nights, open mics, figure drawing sessions, and classes shaped around exploration and inspiration.
Spiritual and reflective practices also collaborate. Stillness, breathing, and introspection create the conditions for deeper creative states. Movement provides release and momentum. Both can work in unison.
Know that this philosophy is still evolving. It will be informed by the people who gather here, the needs of emerging artists, and the future offerings we develop.
